Arpora and Around

Where to eat, based on the mood

Our own shortlist, from fish thali and breakfast to cocktails and bakeries.

For a proper fish thali, Avo's Kitchen is a local favourite and one we return to happily. When you are missing North Indian flavours, try Pincode Bungalow in Vagator, the Goa flagship from Chef Kunal Kapur, known to many as a MasterChef India judge.

For an expensive, polished evening, Jolene by the Sea in Anjuna is our pick for a beautiful setting and some of the best cocktails we have tasted. It is the restaurant created by Amrita Arora and Shakeel Ladak, with a menu by Chef Suvir Saran. Around Calangute, we like De Candolim Deck for steak, and we strongly recommend trying the pina colada.

For breakfast, Mojigao and Artjuna are two favourites with the same easy, leafy spirit. When a bakery is worth a Panjim drive, Padaria Prazeres in the Miramar area is at the top of our list. Closer alternatives include Baker's Street, while Artjuna is also highly regarded for its bakery counter. Places and opening hours change, so check current timings and reserve the more popular tables before leaving.
