For a long stay, Mapusa Market is our answer when you need basic household supplies, produce or inexpensive everyday finds. There are several supermarkets much closer to Arpora for quick essentials. For a more touristy browse, take a scooter along the road connecting Baga and Calangute and stop wherever catches your eye.

Here is a less obvious favourite: a guided ride on a motor-assisted bicycle through Goa's river islands and surrounding countryside. The guide-led rides usually last an hour or more and are especially beautiful early in the morning. They are gentle, scenic and one of the most fulfilling ways we have found to see a quieter side of Goa.

Shivling Waterfall is another personal favourite. The monsoon trek is beautiful and the water breaks over a huge rock shaped like a shivling. It is roughly a two-hour journey each way, so give it most of a day. Conditions can change quickly in the rains, so go only with a reliable local guide, appropriate footwear and a safe weather forecast.
